The Codan XTEND application provides a means to operate a Codan HF SDR radio remotely using an iPhone or iPad, offering enhanced mobility and a user-friendly interface for managing radio functions.

Designed primarily for pre-defined contacts stored within the radio, the system facilitates a range of communication capabilities, including:
<ul>
<li>Making and receiving selective and emergency HF voice calls</li>
<li>Sending and receiving HF messages, encompassing in-link messaging</li>
<li>Transmitting GPS position data to, or requesting position information from, other radios, with visual display in Apple Maps (supporting cached maps when internet access is unavailable)</li>
<li>Conducting manual tests of HF channels (using Selcall protocols)</li>
<li>Establishing and managing phone calls over an HF network via the 3033 Telephone Interconnect (https://www.codancomms.com/products/3033-telephone-interconnect/)</li>
<li>Transmitting and receiving SMS messages over HF through a SprintNet gateway (https://www.codancomms.com/products/sprintnet/)</li>
<li>Exchanging SMS and Web Messages over cellular or satellite links via Codan Convoy</li>
</ul>

The application supports various voice encryption methods compatible with the radio, including Digital Voice at data rates of 2400, 1200, 600, 480, and 300 bps.

Connectivity between the device running Codan XTEND and the radio can be established via a Codan Envoy SmartLink (https://www.codancomms.com/products/smartlink/) or through alternative Wi-Fi routers. Access control is maintained through user PINs alongside standard Wi-Fi security features.

Up to four devices—such as smartphones, Envoy handsets or consoles, or Sentry handsets—can connect to the radio simultaneously. However, performance in terms of response time and audio quality may diminish when multiple smartphones are connected via Wi-Fi in environments with multiple active Wi-Fi networks.

Activation of the "15-10622 Opt Standard App" Sales Option is required on the radio to enable compatibility with Codan XTEND. Additional functionalities may be contingent upon other sales options enabled in the radio's configuration.
